    Bauer Fiber Classifier

The Bauer Fiber Classifier is a specialized instrument for determining the weight-average fiber length of pulp fibers using the screening method in pulp and paper laboratories. It measures the proportion of fibers of different lengths in pulp and reveals the distribution of various fiber lengths in the stock. The instrument complies with GB/T 2678.1-1993, TAPPI T233 cm-95, and the Nordic SCAN M6 (10g sample, 15min water flow, 10L/min flow rate) screening methods. It features 4 screening stages, a screen chamber capacity of 10 liters, a stirrer speed of 580±1 r/min, an adjustable water flow rat...

Product Introduction
The Bauer fiber classifier operates on a stepped screening principle. A pulp suspension is introduced into the classifier and flows sequentially through four chambers equipped with screens of different mesh sizes. Under the agitation of a stirrer rotating at 580±1 r/min, fibers are retained on the corresponding screens according to their length. By controlling the water flow rate (0-20 L/min) and screening time (0-9999 min), standardized screening is achieved. After screening, the fibers retained on each screen are collected, dried to constant weight, and reported as a mass percentage of the original test sample for each mesh size. The instrument is constructed from 304 stainless steel for corrosion resistance and easy cleaning, with a robust and stable structure and simple operation.

FAQ
1. What is the difference between the Bauer fiber classifier and a freeness tester?
The Bauer Fiber Classifier separates fibers by physical screening and determines fiber length distribution and weight-average fiber length. The freeness tester evaluates beating degree by measuring the drainage rate of a pulp suspension. Both assess pulp quality from different perspectives and complement each other.
2. How do I select the appropriate screen combination?
Screen selection depends on fiber length: long fiber pulps (e.g., softwood) are best screened with 10/14/28/48 mesh; medium-long fiber pulps (e.g., hardwood) use the factory default 14/28/48/100 mesh; short fiber pulps (e.g., recycled pulp) are recommended with 28/48/100/150 mesh.
3. How should water flow rate and screening time be set?
Flow rate and time should be set according to the standard method adopted. For example, Nordic SCAN M6 specifies a 10g sample, 15min water flow, and 10L/min flow rate. Parameters are flexibly adjustable within the ranges of 0-20 L/min and 0-9999 min.

4. What are the requirements for test water?
Clean tap water or distilled water should be used. Water temperature should be kept constant to avoid affecting fiber morphology. The instrument requires a continuous water source; a stable water supply system is recommended.
5. How are fiber samples processed after screening?
After screening, collect the retained fibers from each screen separately, rinse them into containers, dry to constant weight, and weigh. Report the result as a mass percentage of the original test sample for each mesh size.
6. Does the instrument require regular maintenance?
Clean the screens and chambers promptly after daily use to prevent fiber residue. Periodically check that the stirrer rotates freely and that the screens are not damaged. The 304 stainless steel construction is corrosion-resistant and requires simple maintenance.

Fiber length is a core parameter in pulp quality evaluation, directly affecting paper strength, bulk, smoothness, and printability. Different fiber lengths play different roles in the paper structure: long fibers provide the strength skeleton, while short fibers fill voids and improve formation. The Bauer fiber classifier uses a screening method to classify pulp fibers by length and calculates the weight-average fiber length by statistically analyzing the mass proportion of each length fraction. This method is widely applied in raw material evaluation, beating effect analysis, process optimization, and recycled pulp quality assessment in the pulp and paper industry. Compared to optical fiber analyzers, screening equipment is simple in structure, intuitive in operation, and lower in cost, making it particularly suitable for routine fiber length distribution measurement in conventional laboratories. With its standardized screening process and reliable mechanical structure, the Bauer fiber classifier provides a fundamental tool for evaluating fiber morphology and pulp characteristics in paper mills and research institutions.
